CBD oil (Cannabidiol) has been a popular treatment for anxiety in recent years. Some people use CBD oil to relieve their daily worries. Others use it to treat more severe conditions such as generalized anxiety disorder.

Cannabidiol, a compound found in marijuana plants, has become more readily available as legalization of marijuana use in more states. Many companies are selling CBD oil products, including salves and supplements. These items are often promoted as natural solutions for anxiety and pain.

Cannabidiol, unlike tetrahydrocannabinol or THC (another compound found in marijuana), doesn’t give you a high when it is consumed.

Uses

According to the Anxiety & Depression Association of America, anxiety disorders is the most common mental illness in the United States. It affects more 18% of the population annually.

Although anxiety disorders are generally treated with psychotherapy, medication, or a combination of the two, many people opt to forgo these standard approaches and self-treat with products like CBD oil.

A survey conducted by Cannabis and Cannabinoid research in 2018 found that almost 62 percent reported using CBD to treat medical conditions. The top three conditions were pain, anxiety and depression.

Scientists aren’t able to determine how CBD oil could help with anxiety due to a lack research. Research suggests that CBD oil may not only affect the endocannabinoid systems but also influence the receptors responsible for modulating serotonin (a chemical messenger believed to play an important role in anxiety regulation).
